Contrary to myth, Christianity’s concept of marriage has not been set in stone since the days of Christ, but has constantly evolved as a concept and ritual. Prof. John Boswell, the late Chairman of Yale University’s history department, discovered that in addition to heterosexual marriage ceremonies in ancient Christian church liturgical documents, there were also ceremonies called the “Office of Same-Sex Union” (10th and 11th century), and the “Order for Uniting Two Men” (11th and 12th century).
First: In order to live a life ordered in a way which is meaningful and fulfilling, that life must be lived in awareness of mortality. This is an extension of the understanding that material satisfaction is hollow—since all individuals will die and all institutions will fade, life for any of these…
This guy is really fucking high.
This post is flawed from the first sentence, as there is an assumption that order and meaning are necessary in order to live. The universe cares nothing for our ‘order’ and the meaning we assign to reality.
Why Atheism Is Wrong
The smart person reasons with both sides of the coin on the chance there may or may not be heads or tails and makes an effort to compromise with the outcome of both sides of the coins entailing effects. This is how it is with God. See the atheists they say they know there is no God. It is more logical to assume there is one and live life fearing it while abiding by it’s moral code then to assume there is not one and be immoral. It’s like a fifty fifty shot. You can either accept there is a God and do what it wants or you can persist in the delusional science crap that it’s all numbers and logistics and that we have no purpose and then if the God does turn out to exist (which He does) then you get punished so all along you were being stupid and not smart like you thought you were.
This is called Pascal’s Wager. Also, how is the average atheist immoral? Besides the stuff about sex and alcohol that does not actually do anything to anyone besides the person doing it, we are morally exactly the same as religious people.
uh except it’s not a two-sided, god or no god coin, it’s a thousand sided “all these different gods” die, and you’re betting on one god and atheists are saying “fuck that I’m not rolling that die at all” and walking away.
Unless you’re saying that anyone who believes in any god in any way gets in to heaven, but I’m pretty sure most religions have some sort of rule against that.
You know, that whole “no other gods before me” thing.
For the last fucking time, atheists do NOT say we know there is no god. We say we don’t BELIEVE in a god. Atheism/theism applies to BELIEF, agnosticism/gnosticism applies to KNOWLEDGE.
The ones who have a logic problem are the religious who profess to KNOW there is a god. There is no scientific and/or logical way to KNOW that god exists. A logical person assumes that since something cannot be proven, it is necessary to assume it does not exist. This is not the same as knowing something does not exist. What we are doing here is using Occam’s razor, a logical construct that states that all external factors being equal, the simplest solution is often the right one. If you assume that god exists, you get stuck in an infinite regression (who created the universe? God. Who created god? etc.) Using Occam’s razor, it is logical to assume there is no creator. I don’t pretend to know why or how the universe exists, nor do I pretend to think that what a human mind thinks about the universe is of any consequence to the universe at all. That would be the ultimate hubris, and also opens up many many cans of worms that your holy books just aren’t up to the task of explaining.
So tl;dr shut the fuck up about what atheists know and do not know. You don’t know me, nor do you know my mind.
Found this to be extremely funny….
Tyre used to be on an island, you can see it here as the end of that peninsula. But the Romans build a bridge by dumping dirt into the sea (forming the peninsula you now see) until they got to Tyre, then they laid siege to the city. Anyway, interesting little fact about Tyre for those who may give a crap.
What’s the difference?
The difference? Nuns are female clergy. Islam has very few female Imams, and I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this photo is not of any of them. Any sect of Islam that would allow female Imams sure as hell wouldn’t be conservative enough to require women to dress that way.
